Slavery still exists in the 21st century. It is sometimes also referenced as Human Trafficking. Modern Day Slavery is a complex, worldwide, multi-billion dollar industry that touches countless lives. The information below provides more detail about the different types of slavery that are most common today.

Sexual exploitation includes forcing an individual to engage in commercial sex such as prostitution or pornography.

Forced labor is compelling a person against their will to complete work or services through the use of force, fraud, or coercion. The five most common industries for forced labor are agriculture, domestic work, factories, nightclubs and bars, and hospitality.

Debt bondage, or bonded labor, occurs when an individual sells themselves into slavery as security against a loan, or inherets debt from a relative.

Organ removal is when a person has their organs removed against their will. They are usually abandonded and often die after removal. Organs are typically sold on the black market.

Forced begging typically involves children. These children are coerced into begging for money on the streets by a human trafficker.

The unlawful recruitment of children into the military is another form of modern day slavery. Children are forced to be porters, guards, servants, messangers, or spies for governmental organizations or rebel groups.

Forced marriage is when one person does not consent to the partnership but is compelled into the union as a result of threats, pressure, or coercion. They may then be subjected to forced labor or domestic servitude.

Domestic servants are confined to their location of work, a private residence, and are forced to perform domestic tasks against their will.
